I dynoed the engine with a 1" Wilson tapered spacer, it made good power. Then in order to run my index I put a 3/4 inch restricter plate on it my question is on a 496 with a victor 454 intake do you think when I make it an open spacer it will kill some power? I never tried it with the plate on the engine. I just wonder if the extra plenum volume is hurting it.

Probibly effect RPM more than anything. Might loose alittle bottom end. Just try it,thats the only way to know. The tapered spacer helps straighten out the incoming air, stronger signal.
The open spacer will add plenum and might loose alittle carb signal.
