I have some springs for lift pumps that ive been messing with. I just was looking at one and wondering if there is a way to take some of the tension out of the spring without any side-effects.

I was thinking about a long cycle of heat in the oven or something then cooling it off slowly. Also thought about leaving it full compressed for a while but i think it affect its standing height. Ive never messed with springs so everything is just guessing.

Spring steel is some tuff stuff, I think heat would be the most controlable way to do what you need. Steel can change quickly with heat so you will just have to experiment.
