Went to one night of a 2 day, National Professional Bull Riders, NPBR, event last weekend. Have to say this was one of the most difficult places Ive shot at, horrible lighting in the arena, big arena at that. Was so hard to get the lighting right because the arena was so big an hardly any power outlets, my light had to be really far away. And the Bright Yellow chutes didnt help. But I got some shots and I think they turned out ok.

I had to stand in the arena this time, and I have never had to run away from so many bulls in one night, got chased to the fence and almost hooked through out the night. Atleast at races I had a wall to stand behind.

2 alien bee 800 strobes, mounted on the arena fence across from the chutes. Using pocket wizard TT1 remote trigger on the camera, and Pocket wizard Plus IIs on the Bees. The TT1 allows you to run a higher shutter speed and get full flash opposed to being stuck at 1/250th.

Most of these shots are 500-800 Shutter speed, 1250 ISO F5.6-F8
The lighting at most of the rodeo arenas
indoor and outdoor here absolutely sucks.

They look pretty good, first yellow chutes
I have seen.

It was a tuff night to say the least, I had to abide by a dress code, Jeans, Button up shirt, and boots. It was hot and no air flow, and running from bulls in a deep arena with boots on was not fun either lol.

It was weird, one the white colored bulls the yellow kind of reflected on them and some of the shots were not usable.
Great Pics Lonnie!! You are one CRAZY sumbitch getting in there with the bulls. I heading down to the PBR event in Columbus OH the weekend after next, I'm goin for the BEER!!!
