I want to change from a stock block 355 to a motown block or an equivalent aftermarket block but keep my internals. I have a stock s400 but with the new block I want to make as much power as possible with a resonable spool time. Whats the biggest turbo you would seggest.

What are your internals? What are you planning to do with the car, do you want instant boost when you matt it on the street?

Was the car already running with the S400, what A/R is that one? T6 1.10 or 1.32?

The car is an 83 Trans Am it weighs 3350 with me in it and has a Neal racing glide. The car made 730whp with the stock s400. It is a streetable race car. I would like to make 1000+ to the wheels. The internals are forged 4340 eagle stuff with l19 rod bolts and JE pistons. I'm sure the internals will handle the power! I was a little dissapointed with the power fro the s400 I thought it would make closer to 800whp.

The S400 should make close to 1000hp. If not then get it upgraded to a 80mm S400 and add a racecover for good measure and you will surely hit 1000hp.

It made over 900hp at the crank. I don't think a stock s400 will make 1000hp to the wheels! Would an s480 with a rcae cover make over 1000hp to the wheels??? I have heard of just under that from majestics! I was thinking something bigger but with a smaller A/R perhaps a s495 with a .96 A/R??

You may wanna call Dave at Majestic again. He built my 80mm S400 and said with the race cover it flows enough air for 1300hp. Im sure thats flywheel hp but 1000hp at the wheels should be feasible.

Yes the S480 will flow about ~ 1300 crank HP with the race cover.

Compressor map is below.... I got if off the turboforums.com

Also for the money, you might want to look at the GT88. They are ~$1200, and flows 1400hp. GT47 compressor based unit.
