What did you have in your 80s, how reliable/well did it work. Who builds them

Anyone with 2nd gear TBrake?

Spooling/staging heat loads and keep the thrust happy, what did you do

Getting turbo converters right is hard, who gets them right with 80s and lockup non WOT just for cruising. The guys we deal with for turbo stuff, I dont know if they or anyone does lockup converters that work well?

We've put a few out there at the 1500+ HP level. We have fairly good results. In one case the 4L80E lived when the Fab 9 rear diff was in pieces.

It's not ultimately going to be as reliable as a Glide or TH400 at 1500+ HP but they hold up surprisingly well. I have hundreds of them in 800-1200 HP applications. You'll get an occasional oddball failure at that level but they are very reliable when built right.

I make a transbrake that allows 2nd gear launch if needed.

So far they don't seem to be as prone to loading the thrust bearings like a 400.

There are a couple of schools of thoughts on the converters. I don't want to get into that discussion here (too much typing) but maybe some of the long time converter specialist will. Some companies don't want to do much lockup stuff, some specialize in it.
