I caught an ad robot virus and cant shake the mother fucker. Ive ran AVG, Avast and spybot...nothing and it happens in Firefox and IE 7.

I dont want to reformat over one (seemingly) easy to rid virus. It opens up a new tab with an ad every 3-5 clicks...annoying as all fucking hell.

I use Malwarebytes along with AVG and between the two, I catch a lot of spyware....

Have you done a boot scan? IE: Before Windows loads?

If you're trying to detect it through Windows, more than likely the virus is blocking the anti-virus... Virus will tend to load themselves before the anti-virus will.

OK, so far this malwarebytes says I have 23 things infected so maybe I am gonna get lucky.

All are free programs. I've used these many times to cleanse people's computers.

My arsenal:

1. Malware bytes
2. Combo Fix - also repairs the tcp/ip stack, and installs windows recovery console if its not already installed.
3. SD fix

I fixed a laptop last week, the damn thing wouldnt even boot. Ran malware bytes in safe mode and it found 168 infections. After that, it would boot but it was sluggish. I can combo fix in safe mode and it found 6 root kits. After that it was good as new.

Be sure to run all of these programs in safe mode. And be sure to use safe mode with networking so that you can update them before running them.

I run avast home edition (its free on their site) for my daily anti-virus.

Malware Bytes found 78 infections, all adware. After cleaning them out the ads appear to have stopped.

It still is still a bit sluggish so I will try the combo fix.

Thanks for the help guys, here I was thinking spybot, AVG and Avast were the best yet they couldn't detect anything.
