I'm starting to "upgrade" these engines ( starting to pull my head out a my ass )

I can see a single taper 7/16" being in mind, can't see why a double taper would be required ?

I'm not trying to be a smartass, just trying to understand why a double taper. Isn't a single taper stronger ?

You are right. Not needing a double taper with that head. My 345's had a bunch of room if you wanted to get busy with a grinder, but you don't need a ton of clearance either.
Best advise is to talk with Manton about specifics on your engine.

I was able to install 7/16" intakes and 1/2" exhaust pushrods with my dart 345's.... definitely had to grind on the exhaust side for 1/2" though. Best of luck

unless you are getting lots more than normal out of a "common 345"...
...then you could easily get good valvetrain controll with a thick 7/16..

as said.. talk to manton...

issue is usually not enough spring installed height.....
