Mike,

Word of advice, always take your "new in box" piece and disassemble it if you can. You'll be amazed on what you might find inside of the piece, I've found animal nests in carbs, large metal shavings in oil pumps and sand in cylinder heads.

As for the Barry Grant carbs, they make a pretty decent carb for the buck, Ive been in dyno sessions where we have ran them back to back against big dollar "tuner" carbs and they have performed pretty close to the big dollar pieces. Just select the right size for your application.

Good luck

I am not sure of the problems that other shops have with carbs,,, i can only speak of what has happened in my shop through the years....

I can give you a list a mile long about BG's problems, but it really wouldn't do much good.... I can tell you that BG'S customer service people are about the worst in the industry.... For years i thought it was just me but i have talked to other shop owners that have the same result trying to get a tech answer from them.... There is some rift with summit that they no longer carry his products.... BG blames it on them and they blame it on him.... I guess the truth is some place inbetween....

I have found Bg carbs full of aluminum chips, loose PV's... i even had one that would shoot fuel out between the meetering block and the main body when you worked the accel pump.... that one went right back. I never opened it up to see what was wrong.....

All that being said i have BG carbs on both of my chevelles..... They both took work to get them right but they do work good for me. But i enjoy playing with carbs, some guys hate it.... the bsfc of the BG carbs look good on the dyno but every one i have seen is over rich on the idle circut and needs that issue addressed......

The last engine install i did in my shop i put a out of the box holley on it... I set the floats and hit the idle screws and it has been working perfect since....

When I was working for a well known engine builder & racer (he's on this site too) my junk was making 808hp on his dyno. 347 cid with a cast single 4bbl. This engine builder was approached by Barry Grant and wanted him/us to run one of his *New Age* carbs. 2 of them were red labled in and we dyno'ed them BOTH against my NASCAR 1.690" primary carb. Both of the Barry Grant carbs were VERY CLOSE to EACH other. The problem is they were 82hp, YES you read that right, 82hp OFF of the junk I had.

BG fuel pumps are great.

In most cases I recommend a box stock Holley 750, HP 950, or HP 1000. If you need a Dominator, then again a box stock deal is what I recommend. If you feel that the potential of these carbs is not what you are looking for, then call Patrick at Pro Systems. Helluva a good guy and he does awesome work in my book.

Good Luck!
