Below are a few of the pics I took from last weekend of a few planes that were at our local airport. Thought a few of you guys may find them interesting to look at. Took a ride in the B-24 and it was well worth it.

Not to be a dick but, the B-24 is called a Liberator, not a Lancaster.
The Lancaster was a British 4 engine bomber.

Great pics,Thanks. That is the Colling foundation planes. They send thier planes out every year and tour the country. I think they are in Cape May,NJ today till friday. I toured them last year at Trentons airport and its something to see the vetrans faces when they are on board the planes. Makes them look sixty years younger. The owners have a flyable plane from every theater of war fully restored and several restored cars at thier museum in Massachusetts. Thier web site is www.collingsfoundation.org.

We have a hughe air show hear every year with that kinda stuff, the rides are pricey but well worth it. They are saying we should have a ME-262 here next year.

I am on the team that parcks and launches the airplanes, fun job.

Those old WWII warplanes sound so cool in the air..unmistakable sound, I couldn't imagine what a whole squadron of them sounded like flying over way back when.

So Jimmy, that plane you told me about last night must have been the B-24 and not a B-29. The B-29 is a very big bird.

The P-51 was an early version, before they went to the bubble canopy. You know, when North American Aviation first designed the P-51, they did it for the British, not for the U.S. It went from the initial design on paper to the initial flight in a VERY short period of time, a matter of just a few months if I recall.

I just checked. 178 days from initial order to first flight.

one thing for the flight that was cool was there was a guy who was 88 years old and flew 40 missions as a tail gunner on a B-24. His family brought him up from Alabama to take a flight. For take off everyone is towards the back but on landing the flight engineer let me sit up front that was pretty neat also. Those men who flew in those plans were definitly heros in my book for what they had to deal with from tight quarters to little to no protection at all. I'm definitly going up for a ride in the B-17 when it comes back

Those birds were at an airport in Waukeegan ,IL last month and I managed to get the car photographed with each of them. I love those birds, and am grateful that there are people out there who keep them flying.
