(August 2nd) - Saturday Night Street Car Shootout brought to you by Cecil County Dragway and Finishline Performance

The Big Tire class is brought to you will special thanks from the following sponsors: Philmont Auto Body, Delmarva Concrete Pumping, Liberty Autobody, K&K Precision Machine, J&S Racecars

Qualifying Round 1

DRIVER R/T ET MPH

Ken Doak - 0.199 7.79 @ 187
James Houston - n/t @

Doak comes out first after breaking the intake in qualifying last month. Doak went about 200 feet and chatters the tires and peddles the car several times down the track and is reported to have a small trail of oil in the shutdown. Houston made a move toward the wall off the hit and coasted.

Gary Naughton - 0.118 7.53 @ 195
Pete Pace - 0.182 7.88 @ 130

Good drag race. Both cars were off to solid runs but Pace shut it down early around 1000 foot and Naughton cruised on by to take the number one spot so far.

Rick Righter - 0.81 7.78 @ 177

Nice clean pass for Righter who puts him number two for the round. Second time out for the Mercury Comet and he continues to make consistent runs.

Qualifying Round 2

DRIVER R/T ET MPH
Carlos Gonzalez - 0.038 7.67 @ 186
Gary Naughton - 0.5 7.45 @ 191

Gonzalez made the switch from time only to big tire so he makes it in for the second time session and makes a nice pass to put him in the field. Naughton improves on his previous pass but he went off the end of the track after the chutes apparently did not deploy. The car and driver are O.K. and the team intends to be able to repair the car for first round. Great news!

Pete Pace - 0.167 7.26 @ 185
Rick Righter - 0.054 7.94 @ 171

Great pass for Pace who muscles his way into the number one spot. Righter was moving toward the wall and had to do some driving and did not improve on his previous run.

James Houston - 0.088 7.72 @ 174

Houston leaves hard and gets the car to go A to B this time and puts himself number four in qualifying put had a puff of smoke at the finish line but all seems ok.

Final Qualifying Order

1. Pete Pace 7.26 @ 185
2. Gary Naughton 7.45 @ 191
3. Carlos Gonzalez 7.67 @ 186
4. James Houston 7.72 @ 174
5. Rick Righter 7.72 @ 177
6. Ken Doak 7.79 @ 187

Round 1 Eliminations

DRIVER R/T ET MPH

(W) Carlos Gonzalez - 0.020 7.56 @ 186
(L) James Houston - 0.055 n/t @

Gonzalez rips off a nice pass as he is going to the next round after making the switch to the class but he started smoking at the big end. As for Houston something went south at the hit of the throttle and he coasted.

(L) Rick Righter - 0.165 7.97 @ 177
(W) Gary Naughton - 0.097 7.65 @ 172

How about Naughton and the Doak crew. They got the car ready for first round competition and Naughton makes a nice run to take out Righter

Pete Pace - 0.19 n/t @

Pace took the tree and left hard but immediately got out of the throttle and coasted as he received a broken bye as Ken Doak for the second month in a row is unable to make the call with engine troubles.

Round 2 Eliminations

DRIVER R/T ET MPH

(L) Carlos Gonzalez - 0.152 10.40 @ 92
(W) Gary Naughton - 0.081 7.72 @ 185

Gonzalez has been running strong today but he was moving around quite a bit and he had to shut it down. Naughton was off his mark but is going yet another round as he will be going to yet another final which automatically sets up a blower car for a win in the big tire category

Pete Pace - 0.863 7.26 @ 193

How about Pace! On a tear this weekend and his Camaro was on a rope this pass and he will have lane choice over Naughton in the final who will need to unload it to keep up with Pace in the finals

Finals

DRIVER R/T ET MPH

(L) Pete Pace - 0.258 7.90 @ 133
(W) Gary Naughton - 0.053 7.40 @ 194

Naughton won last month's event and lets see if he can do it again after having a tough day today driving the car off the end of the track. As for Pace, its his first time here this year and he finds himself in the finals posting some impressive numbers. What a wild final! Pace was late on the tree and Naughton was on his game, but Pace was ahead of Naughton by over a tenth to the 1/8 mile marker. Then, Pace fell off and Naughton cruised by him for yet another win. Congrats to Ken Doak and team for all their hard work today. And after looking at Naughton's car in the winner's circle he spit the blower belt through the side of the hood and he even has some paint damage where a small fire occured at the end of the run further adding to the drama of the day for the team! Congrats to Ken Doak and team for all their hard work today.
