We tried the Fuel Tech cop and spool time doubled as compared to our Pro Mag. Also doesn't seem to idle as well. Looks like the tuneup is the same and all cyls are lit. We are disappointed as we heard spool time would decrease with the COP. Anyone else make the change?

We made the change over a few years back bob....similar situation. Play with tune up and it’s all good

The FTSPARK is a CDI ignition, it has benefits over the mag like not having to spin the magneto and not relying on mechanical components to distribute the spark, making timing as stable as it can be, but those things won't help spooling like crazy, what does help spooling is the FuelTech ECU that has a proprietary 2-step (transbrake) strategy that swings the timing instead of shutting off cylinders to keep the RPM where you set to. That means that all holes are alive and kicking, but with the timing so low, all power goes to the exhaust instead of the piston, so the RPM stays but the turbos spool really quick.

On this image you can see 2 spool up attempts, one with the regular "timing goes down as RPM and boost goes up, then ignition cut to hold" and the other with "timing goes really low to manage RPM as all cylinder are still alive". The 2 red lines on the bottom are boost, you can see that one starts to go up and achieve its target way quicker. The red lines on the top are timing, one with the regular going down and the other swinging from the regular timing to really low. And that really low timing can't be achieved with the mag safely, you can go out of phase, but coil on plug allows to run ANY timing you want:

I am getting ready to make the switch Talked to Eric at Proline you can go negative 30 on timing on the 2 step and build boost crazy fast

Again...didn't work for us. I know they work well for others. Maybe we gave up too soon but we build as much boost as we can use in less than 4 seconds with the mag and it doesn't seem possible to improve on that.

Are you using any type of fluid manipulation device for your converter? Rolling the timing back works on just about everything, possible your missing something in your fuel curve?
