Went there in 1990... Something to see at least once in your life. The track is getting pretty bad, and it wont be long, and they wont do it any more. We set 2 records there with a 3rd Gen Firebird with a tune port 367" SBC. Dont remember the class, but it was pretty close to street legal.. It averaged like 226MPH....

This Caddy ??

That would be the one -- had a Northstar engine in it last year. This year a SB2 and a blower. Alan Johnson of Johnson's Hot Rod Shop knows how to build them -- Bob Johnson knows how to put people and "The Money" together. A lot of street rod builders are putting Salt cars together.
The other "notable" one this year is Troy Trepanier -- they reconfigured Blowfish with a Dodge NASCAR engine with a "big" turbo.
Word has it that Art Chrisman is putting together a Cobalt that his son and Don Enriquez (Hilborn Injection) will be wheeling next year. The engine combo is a refurbished vintage twin turbo'd hemi that Enriquez experimented with in the '70's -- I'll be there for this one.

The real Bobby Johnson lives in Dallas, GA but I don't think he's a member. He hears about the shit on here through Rakestraw I think.

Now, I can only imagine the damage or should I say chaos that would occur if Bob did sign up and contribute...........

How long will you be staying ?

When not working on the course I will be set up at the 2 1/4 mile mark spectating along with touring the pits and starting line. But the canopy will stay set up there every day. Feel free to stop on by and say Hello.

I'll have a rental so no idea what I'll be driving or what color it will be, There will be a bronze colored Sonoma w/ a bicycle on the back of it parked there also.

Check this out...

No sooner did I read this thread this afternoon than a good customer of mine called and asked me if he could get his '40 Ford Coupe in here for me to look at an engine oil leak. He said he needed it pretty quick because he was heading out to Bonneville this Friday and just noticed it today when he was servicing it at home.

He'll be spectating of course. He is a pretty cool old guy. He runs a 911 in a road racing series around here.

One of those strange moments in life when you read something somewhere and someone picks up the phone and mentions the same obscure thing to you. How many guys from N. Texas are going to Bonneville ya know?

Have fun guys.

There are 45 Pre entry's from Texas, no breakdown as to area. Texas is 2nd to Cal. for entries.

To be on the Great White Dyno is simply Awesome !!!! To those that would like to go one day .. DO IT !! Its a very easy trip to make, fly into SLC, rent a car ( or drive out there ) and head west for 90 min. and your there. Hotels are on the Utah / Nevada stateline along with the Casinos and Concert Venue ( Ted Nugent played Friday of last years event ).

Ingenuitity is still encouraged and the diversity of body / engine combos is unreal. These guys truely do it for the love of going fast as there is no money paid out, runner ups, buy backs or anything else. Just your name on a plaque.

Here is a link to a video of a friends car with 800 lbs. placed in front of the front wheels to keep the front end on the ground, and where it scrapes the spoiler towing to the starting line it is 5" off the ground at 240 + MPH ... before it spins.

You are so right about calling it the Great White Dyno -- it certainly humbles many a racer, engine builder and tuner.

It seems as if the "Salt" has be re-discovered by a new bunch of guys and more to follow. Its really neat when you talk to the builders and drivers and how they look at weight being your best friend -- Its got to be the only form of motorsports where this is true.
