I got a 468 and I dont see money for a Dart block in the near future.I was thinking of doing a 496 this way the only thing I would need is a rotator.Worthwhile? I got this 468 down to a 9.90 in good air and it is not a all out motor(12:1 GM crank eagle crank,rods etc.)

Stock block, older brodix heads 8.50's at 159 mph out of a 468".
With better heads and a 496" I would have been much quicker.
You can run quick with a stock block, but it will have a fuse.
Mine lasted ~1000 pass' before I split the back off it.

What the hell did you have that motor in............ a hang glider? How the hell did you do that with a 468?

iran 9.50 with a 431 12-1 310 canfield heads 2650lbs have a 511 289 2bolt blk same heads and car been 8.90.

depends on your definition of fast.

Ran a best of 10.07 with an 11:1 pump gas cast iron oval port headed 468 backed by a turbo400, 8" converter, 4.10 gear in a 3880lb. Chevelle launched off the footbrake and through a full exhaust.

We've gone 7.90's with a stock chevy block, grout filled half way up, out to 477ci, stock crank and a 10/71 with bird on top. But as some one said, it has a fuse. Crank was munching bearings every two to three runs, had it cracked tested and found 6 cracks.

I can recall a local 3600 LB '72 Nova 10.5 car back in the mid-Nineties going 8.60's with a GM block and cast iron LS-6 cylinder heads on two stages of NOS. I was always really impressed with that and it obviously stayed in mind!
