Just did a set of heads and cam on my brothers 383. He bought the motor from a friend of ours and we ran it on the duno and it made a best of 534 with q16 at 6500. We pulled it apart cause he wasnt happy and it was supposed to be a roller but it was a flat tappet and it had a set of bowtie phase 6 heads on it with quite a bit of work done to them. Its a 383 sbc with about 14to1. So I put a set of AFR 235 eliminators on it, a 701/701 roller with i think it was 284/286 installed at 104. 950 hp carb with a bowtie intake. Looking for at least 650hp out of it. What do you guys think? Hoping to put his 3200 lb camaro low 10's with this using a glide and a 5000 stall converter with 4: 56 gear.

Thats what im hoping. He doesnt want to go any faster than that. Ten teens and he would be happy. I dont see why it would make that much.

Very good choice on the heads. We make 725 or so with the 388 at 14.8 with the 227cnc, and in 3150 cars runs low 9's, setup n/a that is. I love the Bowtie intakes on anything, but I would run the HVH SS adapter with a Pro Systems 1050 dominator. You will pick up a bunch over the 950hp, and with that camshaft, which is similar to ours, 284/288 106 in at 103 .725"/.685" with a 1.6, runs to 7,500 rpm. Use a 1 7/8 x 3 1/2" header. You will want a looser converter for all out n/a and at that weight with a 4.56 gear you will want to run a 29.5 tire. These engines running to 7,500 want a minimum of 6,200 on the converter. They are not big torque engines, so hitting the tires hard is critical to get them up on the tire and leaving well. Leaving at anything less than 6,200 will slow the car down. This setup will have a 1,300 rpm power range and should drop only 800-1000 on a gear change. This setup at 2650lbs and a glide runs 8.80's bracket racing. You have a real good combination, just add the converter and bigger carb and shift a bit higher and it will make alot more than 650 and run much faster than you think..;)

Well were strapping it up to the dyno as we speak. Ill know in in a few hours what we can squeeze out of this thing. The heads came 70cc on the chambers and I milled them to 64. Turns out it only had 12.9 compression at 64. I was afraid to go more cause of the 2.12 intake valve. I didn't want to run into any problems. Its an off the shelf srp piston. And its only 4.030 bore. This car has to be together by wed for pinks in maple grove this weekend. Ill let you guys know the number in a little bit. Thanks for the help!

Due to aero dynamics of a Camaro & the weight, 600-630hp will push it low 10's set up properly with everything being correct, if not you will need more power

Now in a 3700-3800 Chevelle without getting crazy low drag stuff, your talking close to 680hp to push it low 10's

Camaro should run high 10's for you AS IT IS NOW with the flat tappet

Well we just finished up. Made a best of 619 with c14 fuel. Tried some q16 but it was from a few months ago and I think it was no good. A 1 inch super sucker picked it up 18 hp with no other changes. May want a bigger manifold. I think with a dominator and intake with fresh q16 650 is possible. But my goal was low 10ls and at 3150lbs I know it will go teens.
