A buddy of mine has a 03 expedition. The truck will not crank but shows dashes on the odometer. We tested and tried jumping the solenoid, it cranks. Battery fully charged. Anybody have any idea what to check or whats up with this? We also checked and swapped the PCM relay, nothing.

Dashes indicates no comunication with the PCM. This has a PATS system (programed key) that comunicates with the cluster and the PCM. What work was just done? If none then suspect possable Inst cluster or PCM issue. Does the theft light flash when you try and start it (with the key)?
He had a cylinder head replaced. Spark plug blew out and didnt know he could repair it without pulling the head. Hes not sure if the light flashs, ill have him try it again and get back to you.
check all fuses. 3 are hidden between two relays at the top of the fuse box. one is vpwr to the pcm. the dashes mean no pcm-cluster communication.....
What about a remote car start? I have also seen older keys mysteriously go bad/blank.

Head could have been repaired without removal. But make sure all the grounds were connected.
