I have this mandrel in the link below i'm installing on my new motor for the vacuum pump. It just looks like this would be bad on the crankshaft as far as it sticks out. I'm thinking about having it machined down some to just what i have to have to run my pump.I can probably get by with half the length it is now. What do you guys think ? Leave it alone or shorten it ? This is a 408 SBC Dart block with a Dragonslayer crank .

I run the same mandrel with a vac pump and alternator. Only issue i had was drilling the holes even in the damper. I've been running it with an Eagle crank in my 468 turning 7400rpm, sometimes 8000rpm in the burn out. Three years no problem. Bearings are checked every off season. Going on the forth season now with the same rod bearings. Mains were changed after two seasons and i'm using them again this year.

I shortened mine at work just because i didnt have the clearance in front of the engine...
I have plenty of room, i just dont like the idea of that much length hanging on the snout of the crank. It may not hurt a thing, i dont know ??

No drilling required on this one, not sure what you mean. It slides right in the damper.

Mine has roll pins that center it in the damper. I had to drill two holes in the damper for the pins. Every Moroso mandrel i've seen has it. Maybe they have changed the design.
Yea, this one has a keystock, no roll pins.

I run the same one on BBC. Have for several years. I use it for vac pump, alt, belt drive fuel pump. Purchased it through Reher & Morrison. If anything was wrong with it I am sure they would have not sold it. I use it on new motor that R&M built they did not recommend changing it. There are a few nicer ones out there. Jones racing has one. Anyway i have not had a issue with mine.
