I was wanting some input on the hood I am going to run on my Impala. I kinda want to keep the stock hood, but my fabricator wants me to run a big ass hood of some sort. I think it would be kick ass to open a stock height hood and see a twin turbo 555 Big Chief under the hood.

In the first 2 pics is a wooden mockup of a sheetmetal intake that will BARELY clear my stock hood

I dont really like big hoods on 94-96 SS's, but I could live with this one, and it would give me about 3 more inches for a taller sheetmetal intake

Would the extra runner length really matter on this setup, and what do you think would look better?

As a side note... I did just get my full dual 4 inch exhaust finished on the car, even took it over the axle. Here are a few pics of it

Thanks for your opinions and lookin at my junk.

That's cool. Details please.

Thanks for the input fellas. I think I will stick with a stock height hood. I just dont think these cars look good with a big hood.

As far as details... Here ya go.

1996 Impala SS 35,000 miles

Motor

555 Merlin block Big chief, bought it out of a rail here. Put down 1081 on a superflow 902 the way it was. I lowered the compression down to 8.9 to 1, changed the titanium exhaust valves over to custom Victory racing inconels to handle boost better. Put in a fairly mild turbo grind cam. 254/258 116 lsa 116 icl about 800 lift. Had the valve job redone to flow maximum at lower lifts, as I dont need it to flow at 1.000 anymore. The motor in turbo form put down 804 on the same superflow dyno, and puts down over 800 from 6050 to 7000.

Currently has 2 gt4276's on it for mockup, but am contemplating going to 2 bullseye s380's with racecovers to meet my hp goals. Those goals are 1500+ on pump gas, and at least 2k to the wheels on q16.

The chassis is going 25.5 or 25.2. Only reason I dont know about the 25.2 is the weld in tranny crossmember will mean that I will have to pull the engine to swap the tranny. Neither cert will really work in this car, as its race weight is going to be around 4500 lbs. Full interior, etc. Even gutted I would have a hard time getting it down to 3600, let alone 3200, so why gut it. It has a Strange S60 axle with 3.54 gears, 40 spline solids, and quad wilwoods on back. Front will be 6 piston wilwoods.

My plan is to drive the car when the weather permits, and to race it a 8-10 times a year. I want to run 8.50s on pump gas and 7s on q16.

Here are a few pics of the work. We have fabricated everything in house, headers, exhaust, cage, etc. I think it coming out nice. We aren't the fastest guys, but it will eventually get done.

Pic of the frame minitub

floor bars

reinforcing stock suspension mounts

Fabricating axle brackets

Starting to make headers

Primaries polished and tigged

Finished header

Wastegates in, starting on downpipes

Downpipes coming along beside motor

Cut firewall up to clear intake manifold. Moved passenger wiper arm over, moved wiper motor inside and reduced cowl size to clear valvecover better, and smoothing out firewall

Firewall rebuild for all clearances

And the exhaust pic from earlier

Its coming together. Slowly, but its coming together. Thanks for lookin at my junk:p

I think it's looking really good... I'd rather be the best fabricator than the fastest.
