Hi guys. Have a 468 that flattenend a lobe and Im upgrading now. I'm going to up compression to run this cam I have on the shelf. How far should I go? Crower 01486 its 260-270 at .050 and 649- 677 lift on a 107 lsa. Crower says 11-11.5 would work. Car is a street strip deal, 80 malibu, th400 trans, 4.10 rear gear, 28" tire. I have two sets of heads now, 083 closed chamber ovals and 781 ovals unported. Should I use them or buy a set of aluminum heads? Oval or rectangle? I cant afford a 3k set of heads right now so I need to keep somewhat budget minded. What head should I be looking for either new or used? I want a solid mid ten second time slip(or better) on either pump, race or e85. Car will be trailered and street driven some but more of a friday/saturday night type car only. OH what kind of HP does it take to run mid tens at 32-3300lbs? Thanks in advance for the help!

Is the new cam a flat tappet cam?BB`s like to eat cams, I would really look into a hy roller, or do everything you can to break your cam in take out inner springs, all the ofther stuff. and pray. YOU need to decide what fuel you want to run. if you want e 85 then you can do 12.1 compression no prob and make some good power.

Hi, the cam is a solid roller and as for fuel still unsure but open to suggestions but leaning towards e85 or pump gas. I figured I'd have a carb built for e85 and whatever other fuel I might run.

IMO I would use the 781's until you can afford a good set of cylinder heads. Something like the Brodix RR 290's,AFR 290's or Trick flo 280's. These all are oval port heads with good low end velocity and flow way more than any factory square port does.

Hi and thanks for the replies! Thats around what I can afford, those heads. Would you still reccomend them vs a rectangle port of same brand? Like the afr 305's??

Hi, no converter yet. Was going to dyno it first before I bought one. I do have 4.56's to try though. Thanks!

If you have E85 in your area, then I'd build the engine around this. Up the compression to 12:1 or higher and with the right cam, conv and induction package, you should be able to get into the 10s. As far as the heads go, I wouldn't go any bigger than the AFR305's or BMF310's. Course the chassis will need to work well with this power.

A well done 467 with 10.5 comp, flattappet cam broke in correct, with oval ports will easily run mid tens @ 3300 pounds easy, and it will not break the bank. 10.50 @ 3300 pounds, 510 HP in a good working car.

I know your 781s will but what about the average, bowl worked big valve heads. YOu dont even sellyours without an engine right? and there close to a set of race rites if you did, i believe.

510 HP to run 10.50s @ 3300 pounds, my 10.5 comp .560 net lift flattappet, 467s make well over 620 HP, a decent set of home ported 781s could easily run 10.5 @ 3300 pounds. Ive never seen unported race rites run with well done (ported) GM ovals, and I have tested them.

I was talking cost wise. can you tell me what my car should run?

468 9.5 compression stock size valves mild clean up. crane hy roller 240/248 . 610 .620 or close lol. on a 112. 4000 stall 3.73s 3100 lbs. how much would it pick up with some big valves and maybe a different cam. would like to get some weight off the front of the car, but money is an issue lol.
