No such thing as an Accidental Discharge. Negligent yes, accidental no. In my humble opinion, when it comes to military and law enforcement, as much as we are around weapons, we should know better.

Says it was a revolver... how exactly can that "accidentally discharge"? Also, it should have been holstered as well as pointed in a safe direction, but no real details are in the story. I am betting someone was fucking around and went to decock but slipped.

...Negligent for sure.

Thanks for the post

I remember an incident like this at Windsor PD in CT. They applied for a budget to replace the antique radio set that was giving them nothing but trouble. Within a week of the budget denial, the radio succumbed to an accidental discharge.:p

Two things I noticed when I read the story that the officers were equipped with revolvers (I thought they were not in use these days) and the round had lost enough energy to prevent punching through a belt buckle. I wonder if there was ricochet or two before it hit the belt buckle. Good to hear no one was hurt.

he could have dropped it...hit the hammer enough to draw it back and it should have a firing block...ehhh it all dont make sence...had to be playing with it...isnt that what happens..??
Your description is a one in a million (if not higher odds) occurance.

The last revolver issued for use by FL LEO's was 10 yrs ago...90% of the FL dept's used the S&W 686. The trigger block in that gun will block the pin (unless modded) unless it is under direct trigger pull. I have hammered the frame, knocked the hammer on the range trying to get an AD. Could not get it to happen. Now I am not saying I won't, but at the time I could not get a stock standard issue S&W 686 to fire w/o a direct trigger pull. And the weapon had been in service for 15 years prior. I still have that gun to this day, it has had 1000's of rounds through it and never had an AD.
