BBC
cast intake
single 4bbl
shelf components
all else is free
is this a realistic goal or am I dreaming?

it's been done with 555"

but I would go 565 or 571 [both 4.25 stroke]

dart block
callies compstar crank+rods
11.0: will run fine on 93 octane
AFR 357 heads although 335's will just make it
around 272 at .050 , .750 lift modern lobe design
use isky gold stripe springs and ez roll lifters
jesel sportsman shaft rockers
edelbrock 2927 with plenum work
1150 dominator

that is closer to 900 hp, no pipe dream

I've done a few of them, here's some samples

555"
11.0 compression
Callies/Compstar/SRP bottom end
Dart 335's
Super Victor
Dominator
Crane 268/[email protected] on a 112

850 [email protected] 6800 or so and 726 lb [email protected] 5300 or so (doing this from memory)

The one in my car is:

555"
11.56 compression
Callies/Oliver/Mahle
Brodix 3xtra CNC 365 cc ports
Super Victor
Dominator
Engle 266/272 on a 112 LSA

871 [email protected] and 746 lb ft at 5300

Drives, dyno's and races on pure 93 octane.

Did a 540, 316cc Canfields, Straub solid roller, Ede. TR and 750's made 910 @ 6400. Good intake and single Dom. shouldnt be too far behind that. We were keeping the rpm down...little more cam, little more rpm and you'd be right at 900 again. Bump it to 555-565 and it should be no trouble at all. I'd be looking at "shelf" heads in the 320-335 range for that ci. or something built to suite your specific combination.

That's the one. :supz: I didn't do the shortblock. The owner is in TN and he had that done there local. I did the top end; ported the heads and intake, set up the valve train, figured pushrod lengths and rocker geometry, etc. Thing's a monster.

This is my combination:

It's a 10.1:1 540, SRP shelf pistons
crank and rods are Scat
AFR 325 heads with CNC chambers only, no extra work
Bullit 309/316-10R cam installed at 108 degrees net lift .700 after lash, shelf item
Edel 454R manifold
1050 Dominator
2 1/8" headers with 4" collectors
Motor is what I'd call a "catalog build"
I run it on 93 octane Sunoco
It made 820 HP @ 6600 RPM and 717 tq @ 4700 RPM

The heads are a little small for this engine I think and it pumps 175 to 180 on a compression test after 300 passes. That might be a little on the edge for pump gas. I've gone a best of 8.87 @ 2790 lb with it.

I think some more cubes and better heads will make 850HP or more easy. My goal was to just make 700 HP.

This one just put the owners boat at 101MPH mark last week in 90 degree heat and humidity in the 90% range. She turn a AA impeller 6300 rpm which puts the engine at 860HP uncorrected. The cool thing about jet boats is they are water break dynos.

For those that understand jets and how much it takes to get them to the tripple digits can appreciate what this 540 is doing.

On jets money is better spent on the pump the the engine first
