What are the pros and cons of each? How much more power with duel carbs vs single? Power difference 9 deg 18 ?

.

I learned the hard way, get the right block for the job the 1st time.
I wasted a lot of time & money trying to use the block from a street car in a real race car.

Get the biggest damn block you can afford that will fit and start from there.
Especially if starting from scratch.

If you run the numbers, it really isn't that much more dough to run a bigger arm now a days.
Why settle for a 632, when you can afford a 700-800".

Good luck, race safe.

I guess I should of been more specific. Standard bore space bbc. Raised cam or not? Dart vs World?

Even with a standard 4.840 bore space you can get a tall deck block from dart. A 10.2 deck with a 4.75 or larger stroke gets tight. If you want to start throwing a 5"+ stroke those 10.6"- 11"+ blocks really help

Ok, seeing as I did some research on sorta this topic, go 655+. Many of the bigger builder like RM Fulton and even guys on here say that UNLESS you looking to squeeze every last Hp/torque out of a 4.84 BS deal, go 655+.

I have a nice Fulton 706 deal and REDUCED the stroke from 5.3 to 5.0 to bring it inline with a 655 deal. Power will be very close between 655+ and 706 BUT the crank will last longer in a 655 but quite some time/runs. Therefore so will pistons and cylinder walls.

I have a Donovan HC700 block 11.125 DH with 18 deg Pontiac 427's. 706 NA it made 1430Hp and that was set up for 3 guns. Heads are now at Slick Ricks getting TUNED up.

So with what your doing, why stop at 4.750 stroke? Bore it to where you want, run a 5.0 stroke and let the party begin. As for heads? Depends on goals, purpose and use of power adders.

There are different factors to consider,but with only a 1200hp goal,you really don't have to go crazy.raised cam 10.200 iron block,55mm cam tunnel,x pattern,maybe .937 lifters.11x or 12deg or even sr20s will get u there with a single carb.my buddy just did a 598 with 1203s that made 1220 with a single carb.

Not a fan of the 10.2 block with that stroke.
For your needs you really don't need to go all the way to a monster block either.
Consider the 3/4 arm in a 10.4 block.

So only real question now is budget? At 2450lbs and a 632/655 @ 1200Hp he'll probably blow right past 7.50 @ 600 ft elev. if the car is sorted out.

Budget is 25k. Reason for wanting the power is possible t stop racing or just a quick 16 type in the future. Not my car. Buddy's car.

Basically the .200 added deck height will allow .200 more rod length or height from the wrist pin on your piston.
This extra on the piston is very important if spraying and a longer rod reduces thrust load on the cylinder and pistons

Exactly, I've had 3, 582's over the years and was not happy with how they wore with such a tiny pin height.
A 632" is even worse, and I know all kind of guys stuff a 1/2" arm into a 9.8 and love them, my 2 cents is don't do it.
Since you guys only want 1200 HP, my 2 cents, which is what it's worth, is stick a 1/2" in a 10.2 or a 3/4" in a 10.4.

Again, good luck.

I agree, maybe a 5/8 max in a 10.2. helped a friend redo a 598" with a older set of Brodie big dukes, single Ron's terminator. Ran 4.5's in the 1/8 in a heavy 5 link dragster. should be able to accomplish goal if money is spent correct
