i am upgrading to a 565 from a 540 here is what i have
dart bigm 9.800 block
dart 355 cnc heads witha 50* valve job and minor clean up
14.5-1 je pistons 40cc dome 4.600 bore
compstar rods 6.535 l 19 bolts
eagle crank 4.250
ported super victor
pro-systems 1200 carb
810/778
280/[email protected]
112lsa plus 2* adv

this motor is going in a 3600lb car i am not caught up in the number game here, i want the car to et the best. but the cam manufacture said with the combo and cam it will only make 830 to 860 hp thats what his program is telling him. i m really disappointed to hear that, and feel bad for spending the money upgrading when my 540 pushed the car to 9.60 ets with 325 heads and a 785/779 279 [email protected] 112 installed 109 any input on maybe a mistake in his calculation?

he didnt really say, but he did say that we could pick up around 20hp if we moved the duration up but he said the heavy car would not like it

The cam does not have enough duration for big power. Those heads will make more than 900 hp.

I'm doing the same basic combo, and if it only makes 830 hp look for it on ebay. I think you will make over 900.

i believe my 540 makes around 800 hp with a smaller cam just surprised only a 30 to 50 hp difference? the cam is on the way already guess im going to have to eat it!

This combo should definitely make over 900HP. With a cam in the low 280* int and low-mid 290* ex with over .800" lift cut around 113* it should make over 950hp.

I wouldn't even worry about it, that thing will hit 900 with no problem. I've seen smaller cams with those heads and the same cubic inches and less compression make 875. I have a friend with a 65 chevelle with almost the same setup going 8.90-9.10 and his car is 3530 pounds. Michael

with the heads you have 930 -950HP should not be an issue. You may want to spend some time working with different cam mfg.

Who is the cam manufacture you are working with. As posted, I would be looking for a New Cam Grinder.

I'd step the cam up a bit, mid 280's intake and mid 290's on the exhaust at .050.... .840 or so at the valve, couldn't hurt either. 110LC.

I am assuming a T400? 4.30 gear?

I'd guess 9.20's.. maybe high 9'teens.. mid 140's .. properly tuned. Shed some weight on that baby!!
Just money.
