First, gearing is off. 3.73 with T400 and GV will drop you to like 2.65 gear. Better to gear it to 4.56 and drop to 3.55 with GV engaged. Depending on wants and goals, I'm not sure bigger is better. A well thought pit 496 combo can out run a so so 555 and would also cruise and dr8ve better.

NEED WAY MORE INFORMATION ON GOALS AND RESULTS YOU WANT.

Just a general question. Looks like big as you can affordably build is the answer. There is no more info to give. My plans are to build the 496 as we have discussed on this site before. Tons of good response. Thought maybe overall the bigger motor would be tamer and have more drivability. THANKS FOR THE RESPONSE, THINK IL KEEP THE GENERAL QUESTIONS TO MYSELF FOR AWHILE AND JUST READ THE FORUMS. NOT EVERYONE ALWAYHS HAS A DETAILED TAGLIST OF INFORMATION FOR THEIR BUILD TO PROVIDE. DONT WANNA WASTS ANYINES TIME HERE. THANKS.

I read that incorrectly. Excuse my rudness please. Yeah I'm not sure how much the gear vendors provides overdrive wise. Sounds like alot which is kinda good I would think. On the 509, 549, 565 just a general question. I've done multiple big blocks in my days but haven't gone into the aftermarket block over 500 inch end of things yet and wouldn't mind testing those waters at some point.

Jones, understandable. Gv for T400 usually drops final drive just over 1 point, like 1.1 or 1.2 as my GV unit is almost 1.2 on 4.33 rear gear.

Now the problem is, you need to have the whole combo be able to run at extremely low RPM lugging with the GV engaged. Might be better off just using the T400 with a bigger motor, like 555 or larger and usse a smaller rear dear like 3.55 as the tq of the big motpr will pull the gear better off the line.

We have several OEM stock BBc that make over 700 tq. It's just combo working together. And remember the bigger motor will also usually use more fuel so less MPG too.

I like the idea of the big motor and lower (numerical) gear ratio. Keeps rpms down on interstate etc. Yeah I'm sure combo would be alot different otherwise wouldn't be as fun to drive lugging etc. Everyone seems to do the LS thing these days with the electronic transmissions...etc. I'm just can't bring myself to do it makes me wanna leave..lol
