I see on the 400 SBC thread that most say barely 600 HP is available from a stock 400 block. I bought a dragster with seller saying engine was a destroked 400 to 377". Never had the engine apart yet so I do not know exactly what I have.
In my dragster it runs 5.50's at approximately 129 mph.
Roughly what HP do you guys think its making. No spray, all motor. stock GM 400 block, unsure if 2 or 4 bolt. Edelbrock alum heads on alky.

I am "NOT" an engine builder so I do not know but it sure is a fun ride.

If the dragster weighs in the 1900-2000 lb. range, you'd be pretty close to 600 hp.

I have never had the dragster weighed with me in it but I'm gonna agree somewhere around 1800-2000 lbs as mentioned. I weigh 220 lbs.

Innovative225,
My car looks very similar to yours, same scoop and upswept headers. Smallblock and PG trans. So if yours weighs only 1675 lbs with you in it, maybe mine is lighter then I thought. My car is a 215" wheelbase hardtail dragster.

There are a couple of 383 small block dragsters at my track that run 8.50-8.60 seconds in the 1/4, slightly quicker than you. They make around 540-550hp. My car ran 8.26 at 1650lbs with a 355 that made around 590hp

Innovative225,
What is your engine combo, trans/converter? Is it a hardtail, 4-link etc?

Hatesalive,
Is there something wrong with being "old school"? I am old too but still playing the same game as the newer cars. LOL

225" hardtail
Powerglide
Off the shelf 8" TCI converter
4.29 gears
Last year we ran a alcohol 421" SBC with 23* standard valve space heads, Rons fuel injection, ancient Crane ignition. Best result 7.87 @ 168mph

Currently building a 422" 13° SBC, hope to run well under 7.50 and well over 170mph

Our track is like a billiard table, no need for a 4 link here.

Right now Hates is in conference with THE RIPPER, jax, Data and Mike Rietow to come up with an answer for your question.

377 was a REALLY fun street motor because of its snappy response. The stock 400 block ruins the fun potential but its a solid combo.
