So they're building the new ZMax Dragstrip in North Carolina. It's 4 lanes wide. Two identical 2 lane drag strips side-by-side, seperated by a concrete barrier.

Why?

Are they going to race 4 cars at a time sometimes?
Alternating tracks?
Spare track in case of an oil down?
Will they actually work on prepping one track, while cars are actively running down the other?

How exactly are they planning to use the 4 lanes?

From what I've heard, and I don't know if it was that exact track or another one. But, it was done so that if a TF or FC car or any car, had an oil down, they could keep the show running in the two other lanes, while cleanup was going on in the oiled lane.

My question is...how much are the guys getting paid who are cleaning the lane or lanes that are fucked with cars running beside them while they are doing it.

Exactly. I find it hard to believe they'll have guys on tractors prepping lanes while nitro cars are going past at 250-300 mph depending on how far downtrack the oildown is.

Good point!! Maybe they just finish the round, & then clean between class'
My point was, if all 4 are not equal, do you let the crew chiefs make a change before running???

I suppose they could run the sportsman/bracket/super classes through pretty quick at National events. Hasn't the NHRA been complaining about how much time they take?

It doesn't matter how much time it takes when it comes to safety!! Haven't we had enough issues on that lately? Would you clean up a lane as a car goes wizzing by you?? Hell no, I wouldn't. Too much unpredictable shit happens. I've had cars come at me just during the burnout.

I have wondered the same thing. I think that they could run the slower classes 4 cars at a time though, that would be awesome!

Bruton Smith has said he wants to show a race on live TV and he said dual tracks could do that. Not sure how he plannned to do that though. He has also recently said that NHRA won't let him run 4 wide. He must have a plan cause he is not stupid and he's spending alot of money to do it. He owns Bristol so he knows how drag racing works. Used to be pretty common back in the 60's. Old literature howed them racing 4 wide at Detroit Dragway and I believe Muncie, IN.
