I'd like to freshen up my 160k mile 351W Lightning motor. I don't want to spend too much money, but I want it to make at least 500 hp. I was thinking of tearing it apart, boring it, .030 or .040 over and rebuilding it. I'd like to use Fox Lake TW 185cc Stage 2 CNC heads, a custom .580 camshaft and a TFS R intake or reuse my GT40. Will it make 500 hp?

E-ZEE. ALL SOUNDS GOOD BUT I WOULD DO A. 408 CI. 500 HP RANGE PLUS. EXTRA torque IS ALWAYS A PLUS ......TFS INTAKE. VICTOR JR HEADS AND A CUSTOM CAM .....

I thought about just replacing the heads, cam and intake on my 160k mile 351W and calling it a day, but rebuilding the shortblock is probably the smarter way to go.

TEA > FoxLake. Look into TEA heads...they're all CNC ported while FoxLake hand ports. On a 351w, those heads would be a great match along with a custom cam from bullet or FTI, crower etc. and use a super Victor efi Intake. You'll easily make 500hp at the crank.

Even the Dart Pro1 170's would make a good head for a 351 that's not turning much over 6000rpm. 1.94 intake, little bowl and short turn work and you're looking good. I just did a 357, stock crank and block, Eagle I beams and Probe pistons, 9.8:1, solid flat tappet, Pro1 170's, RPM Airgap...should make an easy 425-430 on 93 oct. I'm going to post the build before long. Your 500 will be no problem.

My buddies motor is almost identical except we ran some '69 castings I had laying around, stock rods and hyd roller right @ .600". Made [email protected] 5800 on DTS in less than desirable air. Real nice budget build and is a blast to drive!
