Another key to consider is stroke vs rod length. Shorter stroke and long rods will put less stress on the cylinder walls. Shoot for a ratio of 1.8 or better and keep it under 8600, it will last longer than you would think.

Doze Boss 302 factory blocks arent hard to find. I had a perfect standard one that didnt even need boring. My friend has one setting in his garage. The been pushed over a 1000 hp without filled by quite a few.

BUY A NEW BOSS BLOCK ....... DON'T WASTE ALL UR internal or your car..When I bottom END COMES OUT OF THE BLOCK AN OIL'S DOWN THE TRACK ...just my opinion .
Good advice.

The whole Mexican block thing is like calling one retard smarter than the other retard. I completely understand budget concerns but It's painful to keep seeing this come up over and over on the internet.
Funny, yet true.

I've had two R-302 blocks that held up great. But the new Boss 302 block is better in every way. It's heavier than the R block and the casting is clearly better.

Don't waste your time on a stock block (Mexican or otherwise). Sell it to someone else who think that they're something special.

At the very least, get an R-block. But, for the price of a new Boss block, it would be hard to justify buying anything else.

A round track buddy tried that mexican block theory. She vomited the bottom half out like a drunk on prom night! lol And that was with 'N' heads (i believe thats what they are called. All iron type rule class)

And that was during the initial hot laps too

I am a die hard 8.2" Deck guy. If I was going to build one for the Ky. limited series, I would be searching hell and high water for a boss 302 block. The one with the 4 bolt mains.

Best of luck with the "El Hecho"

They used those things in the mules for towing aircraft around.

Never figured out how to switch block on them.
