My dad has a 3/4 ton w/a 6.0 and I was not impressed with#1 the power and #2 the fact it gets 7 mpg pulling a 30hp tractor. His old truck with the 350 and 4:10 gear pulled almost as well. Runs great unloaded though.

Mine doesn't do to bad but if you can afford it get a Duramax. Mine at best has gotten 12 pulling but that was all open highway. I ahve put a exhaust, cold air intake and power programmer and it has helped a ton. Keeping your foot out of it, and not letting it down shift as much as possible will help a ton.

My 06 gets about 12 all the time. Drive it easy, drive it hard, doesnt seem to make a difference. Pulling my 28 ft that tops at 8700, it gets 9 running 65. It was about 8 running 65-70, but camper shell might have given it back one. Needs a deflector to get air over the top of trailer.
Power could be better. No chip or anything but air filter on it though. My next one will def be a DM.

In september i traded my crew cab 2500 hd diesel for a 2500hd crew cab 6.0 6 speed auto.[my 5 year warranty on the diesel expired] my new truck has a 6 foot bed and its a 2011,
i drove it on a 300 mile trip it averaged 17 mph and i run 75 to 85 mph on the intrestate,
my diesel got from 18 to 19 mph same trip,
in oct, i pulled my 24 ft, inclosed race car trailer with my sons turbo regal inside, total weight trailer and car was 8200 lbs
running no faster than 80 mph, it got 9.5 mph
my diesel would have got 11 to 12 mph
the diesel has a lot of torque and it pulled better than my new truck,
i traded for 10.000 dollars, the trucks are the same except my
2006 was a diesel,
if i pulled a lot like 5000 miles per year i would have bought another diesel,
i have two diesel farm tractors[they burn red fuel]
good luck odie,

I will tell ya tho, wanna gain HP and TQ, yet gain some MPG, get it custom tuned. I had my 4.8 tuned by Black Bear out of San Diego, (you ship them your ECM) and they tune it, remove the torque management, and it will REALLY help, plus gain some gas mileage back.

I have a 2010 2500HD with the gas 6.0 . It was getting 8.4-8.7 towing our 30' trailer loaded at 70mph. I bought a Bullydog this fall. Made a 900 mile trip, towing, and it got between 9.2-10 at 70-75mph. No lack of power here. Also raised the in-town, empty, from 11 mpg to 12.5mpg.

I had an 06 in a 2500HD and it got 11 MPG with a trailer it got 8, the 6.0 really sucked on the power to pull a trailer, the truck ran good with out a trailer, but towing it seemed to lack the low end. and this thing even had 4.10 gears, keep it one year and traded it in on 2007 Duramax , best move i ever made,,, would not have another 6.0 unless it was in a half ton that i did not tow with,,and the worst part was the 26 gallon tank , you will spend more time filling up than you will driving,,,,,

Some of you guys need to have a lighter right foot. Mine gets 15.5 mpg on the highway at 75mph empty. 12-13 mpg around town. I drive like a grandma though because it makes a huge difference.

No shit get the weight out of your foot. 15 highway at 75. And I get 11-12 city on my crewcab longbox 05 Chevy 6.0. Air cleaner upgrade and cover over the box. 285-75-16 on it too. Buy a diesel if you will tow a lot.

My '04 Crew Cab 6.0 gets 11 mpg normally. I can get 15 at 60mph if I take things easy. I do have the torsion bars cranked up and 295's on it though. 4.11 gears in the back.

Use to get 9 mpg pulling a 24' camper and jet skis. Got rid of the camper and it doesn't even notice the jet skis!!
