Solenoids will react a little faster and wear out a little sooner (nothing you will likely ever notice, it is a long, long term thing). Motors will run faster, so your fuel pumps will be qyuicker, as will your cooling fans. (All easy to deal with). The only real negative will be anything that has a light bulb in it, as the extra voltage will burn out lights quickly.

It should also be noted as much as everything can get along on 16 volts fine, i have seen some racers (3 altogether) have issues at 16volts, and it was cured by going back to 12volts. Dont know why, 2 times it was or seemed ignition related, and once was a data logger issue.

16volt systems were first developed for the car stereo market. Funny story, in a sad way. Had a customer with 5 amps at $5500 each, some of the first 18volt car stereo stuff out there. We did a power system, 200amp at 12volts, 400amps at 18volts. Bunch of batcaps, totalled almost $13,000.

First day out he smokes one of the amps. The factory says it was over voltage. He says he watched the volt meter and it never went above 18volts. The factory asks how long he was playing it for, he was like I was driving to the competition, 1 1/2 hours. They were like, no,no you can only burp them to 18volts, they cant handle 18volts steady.

He was not a happy camper. Got his warranty though.
