You'd think it would be common knowledge, but all these years later and I don't think I have ever heard definitively who was responsible.

This^^^ Wasnt there supposed to be an inspection by NHRA but this "break-in" happened before it could happen? Im surprised they managed to pull it all off with as much Cocaine that was being used

Yeah, that kinda ended their dominance but I ain't saying they were cheating. I don't know and can't remember if anyone was penalized by NHRA. If they were "working outside the rules a little" it worked for them. Remember, some cheat and still never win.

I think the coke part was more of a courier situation than a consumer situation.

IIRC, there was nothing at the time in the NHRA rulebook (in the Pro Stock section) that said Nitrous Oxide was prohibited.

Because of that NHRA could not do much so that matter kinda went hush hush.

This was also around the same time Jerry Eckman was banned for life wasnt it? He was banned because he had a nitrous explosion in the pits when the solenoid hung open if i remember right.

Lets not forget that Lee Sheppherd was killed when a loose nitrous bottle exploded inside the car, causing him to lose control, roll over and get ejected.
