A off the wall Pontiac trivia question...

I have been watching re-runs of Bewitched and noticed all the leading cars are Pontiac. Did Pontiac sponsor the show??

In the first 4 seasons of the show there were two sponsors
for Bewitched, Quaker Oats & Chevrolet, so as a result all of the
cars on the show were from the sponsor Chevrolet.

In addition there were commercials of specific cars as part of the
original sponsor animated openings that were used when the show originally aired.

Most of the network shows were "sponsored", i.e. provided with promotional considerations, by automakers and other companies.

For example, I just finished up watching Mannix and then Streets of San Francisco. Mannix used Mopars of various bodies & brands until the last season, when they switched to GM. SoSF was FoMoCo all the way.

The funny thing is that when you binge-watch, you see some of the same cars over and over, sometimes as cop cars, sometimes as bad guys. Even in Season 8 of Mannix, when he was driving a Camaro, some of the bad guys were still driving the Dodge and Chrysler leftovers.

Another funny thing is that some manufacturers were stricter about their brand representation than others. For example, again in Mannix, the "feature" cars were Mopar....but if a car was an old beater that looked like shit, as if the character driving was poor, the car was always a competing brand. In SoSF, the cars were generally Fords, even if the car was several years old or in poor shape, rust, dents and all.

The most amazing thing about TV show cars, to me, is that the shows shot on location, like SoSF, show a lot of background cars that are clearly owned by actual SF citizens and are parked or driving as a part of their everyday lives. There are SO many '50s cars still in everyday use (the show ran '72-'77), and quite a few from the late '30s or post-WWII eras.

You also see lost brands like Nash, Hudson, IH, DeSoto, as well as Austin-Healeys, Datsuns, and other foreign brands now gone.

Then there are the shows where the car is an integral part...like Rockford Files...
