Default Anyone ever have a jesel belt "jump a couple teeth"???

Last month in testing we went a 4.84. All I did before 1st round of qualifying was move some timing retard in the 7531 box. 1st round of qualifying the car launched and then bucked a couple times and Tommy aborted the pass. After that pass we found 4 bent pushrods. We fixed that and the car still ran like shit. 60' went from 1.18 to 1.38.

We changed everything we could think of and the car just continued to run like shit.

We pulled it apart and found exhaust valve p/v contact. It wasn't there before, but it is there now. Also found it bent all exhaust valves and guides.

Anyway, I pulled the balancer off and found the dots on the jesel drive weren't aligned. It's off by two teeth. I know with 100% certainty that it wasn't like that before.

I don't know exactly how old the belt is, but we're obviously getting a new one.

I've never heard of a belt jumping, has anyone else experienced this and is there anything that can be done to prevent it?

It's a 632- EFI on Methanol with twin gear driven prochargers.

that's a first. don't have any issues with my jesel. how much spring pressure are you running? it could have been an old stretched belt that did it

I have sheared the key, between the spider and the part that physicly bolts to the cam, that'll retard your timing in a hurry..

belt could have lost tension due to the extremely high spring pressures and therefore jumped a couple teeth. just my .02

brady, did it ever kickback?? or try to run backwards?? or hydraulic itself.. after any type of backfire, kickback, or if you think you hydrauliced it, you must check or change the belt!! i know its a lesson learned now... but i know what you will check next time..

Earl, of course it kicks back, backfires, hydraulics, and runs backwards all the time. You know who's tuning it

It does kick back occasionally when trying to start it in low ambient conditions. But nothing out of the ordinary under power. Maybe just an old belt??? I looked the belt over the best I could and didn't see where it was damaged- but something had to give??

Check the keyway in the upper pulley and also check the bolts that hold the outer ring gear on the upper pulley, I have seen those get loose and timming slip on the pulley and it look like the belt slipped.

On a normal heavy nitrous application they say the belts are done at around 100 runs....
In a Orange Crush tuned monster that has to be a fraction of that LOL
