Default Nova weight loss

I've got a 71 nova and need some ideas on how to drop some weight off it. Current weight right now is 3570 with driver. It's got a 10.2 deck 598 in it. I've been thinking about replacing the stock a-arms and also going to a rack setup. Does anybody know how much weight that will save roughly? Everything is factory on the front end and has cal trac suspension in the back. I have a glass hood and bumpers and factory glass windows. Don't want to put anymore glass on it. Just wondering what you guys do to lighten them up. Trying to keep from buying a mustang. Thanks guys

Hellride, I just went through all this months ago while it still snowing and nothing else to do. Here's a list of the things I took off and what my total weight savings were when done.

Replaced stock upper & lower control arms 47#
TRZ Upper & Lower control arms 21#
Total weight savings was 26#

Replaced OEM power steering box 29#
Stock manual steering box 19#
Total weight savings 10#

Replaced OEM Front Disc Brakes 69#
Aerospace Front Disc Brakes 29#
Total weight savings 40#

Replaced OEM rear drum brakes 40#
Aerospace Rear Disc Brakes 27#
Total weight savings 13#

By doing these things I took off a little more than 90# off the car.
Instead of using two bumper brackets on each side on the front bumper we used one on each side and it saved us another 5#'s which isn't a lot but it all starts adding up.

588ci - 72 Nova here... same deal. I have the TRZ upper and lower control arms and dbl adj. coilover shocks.. 40lbs off the nose. I have glass hood and decklid. Still have original bumpers, need to go fiberglass. I am going with some Wilwood front brakes shortly.. Im hearing another 40lbs just with these brakes! but we'll see... Bottom line, it's weight reduction... I have stock 72 Nova Discs up front and Wilwoods in the back. I am going to one battery in back (Odyssey PC1500), instead of two... and am going to remove the inner fender wells.. another 20 to 30lbs I'd imagine... Mine was heavier than yours,.. I also have wheelie bars on mine, which hopefully I will not need... another 30lbs or so... Im curious to hear what you get yours down to. Whatever you do - don't buy a Mustang!!! Ugh! lol. Take care.

Thanks guys. I plan on putting a rack on it first to help out with steering. Does anyone know if this saves any weight? Oh and I hate to buy a mustang but that's all we ever race against and those guys are light. It started out as just a small block street car and we just kept making if faster. And the weight just kept coming up as well. Once again thanks guys.

I have pretty much done all of the lightening mentioned above. Beyond the fiberglass hood and bumpers, I have removed the door regulators and glass, and have Lexan installed. Also, the door framing has been shaved off and I have aluminum skins to hold what is left off the door together. Both door reworks were worth 38lbs total.
The trunk bracking was all cut out, and I used some 1/2" light gauge square tube to brace from the corners to where the lock goes, this eliminated 12 lbs.
With a factory block 406 and a glide I was 3075 lbs with driver. I now have a Dart block and TH400, and tip the scales at 3280lbs with driver.

The class rules I race wont allow lexan. It also requires door to be stock, with the windows working. Two years ago with ladder bars and a 477 bbc it weighed 3370 w driver. Only thing changed was stock suspension and the 598. So that picked me up 200 lbs. I don't really want to gut it out i just need to lose 100 lbs or so. Oh and the driver weighs 190. Maybe I need to find a horse jockey that can cut a light lol.
