Default Plug cap closed up

Don't hate on me but, My nephew runs a turbo charged Honda LSV in a 1992 Hatchback. He's running 17 psi boost with 10.3 cr. on pump gas. Car has run a best of 11.3 @123. He made two runs the other night. First run there was a sputter/backfire in the top of third gear.Continued to pull strong in fourth. Did an 11.7 time. Second run was even better, with no missfire. Did a 11.5 time. Some oil puke out of the catch can, but he hadn't drained it five runs. It holds about 16 oz. He checked the plugs and all the gaps were very tight. Compression is even at 185 all 4. Runs fine. I suspect detonation? What do you guys think?

Run it.
If it gets faster then the motor is almost broke.
Loose is fast and then it lets go.

I think at that power level you should have some data-logging capability so you know where the AFR is and a damn good ignition system including wires.

Missing is not unusual but when boosted engines backfire that is NOT good.

IMO detonation will not show up as missing or backfire. On a boosted engine it will show up on the plugs. It doesn't take much detonation at all to see aluminum or electrode damage.
