Today was quite a bit better than yesterday! We cruised the flats, found some clean clear water and got into a giant school of around 500-1,000 large black drum. Some of the bigger drum were over 40-50" long and upwards of 40+lbs from what I could see from the tower on the boat. 3 of us limited out in about 4hrs. And damn I hate cleaning drum!
28" drum a puppy drum? not really.....
yes, I know they can get 40+, but a 25"+ with give you a nice fight on 10lb or 8lb line. We got 2 more drum and 1 red today that was 1/2" shy, so tossed it back.
Big drum are fun too, but not good to eat:
Love the socal offshore fishing. Been slow for way too long though. Got a couple capin buddies and a couple deckhand buddies. Yellowtail has been down, having to travel farther for tuna, mexico not allowing people to fish there without a work permit or some stupid shit. I used to captin a 65' Hatteras, but glad i got out of the game. It's been slow and small. 94 was an amazing year though, Ah El Nino. Florida is more fun now. Worth the plane trip.
Florida is definitely worth the plane trip I had an amazing time in the keys fishing! lol I dont think you could go there and not catch a fish they were biting on barehooks it seemed!
I went fishing in the florida keys started out in key largo and went on a night fishing charter and caught a bonnet head shark then went to islamorada and caught groupers , triggerfish, yellow tails, angel fish, king fish it was amazing! then we went to keywest and caught mostly snapper and huge groupers
Key Largo caught a smaller shark but it was fun! AND THEY ARE DAMN HARD TO HOLD ONTO! AND STRONG AS ANYTHING and this was just a little one
Islamorada they couldnt let us keep the groupers or triggerfish but everyone on the boat out of bud and mary's caught atleast 10-20 fish each!
And Key West ounce again everyone caught alot of fish but mostly snappers and groupers
I have never had so much fun fishing until I went to the keys
9# 14.5 oz. Caught it yesterday evening. The tank I was fishing was about 10-12 acres and was by far the best place I have ever fished. I caught 16 bass in a little over and hour. Thsi was teh last one.
I cought and released this bass in 2006.my engine was being built at the time and didn't have enough money to mount it.didn't wieght it either I assume 9+lbs.
How big do you guys think it was.
Nice snapper and killer bass! Ive going at it with the gig the last month or so. Probably 25+ flounder. I stuck this guy monday night, just a little under 22", probably 5.5lbs.

i'd trade snapper or grouper any day for that flounder. You got a battery on a boogie board its for a light i assume, you just wade around and gig flounder? would like to try it we fish in the big bend of fla lots of area to gig
