Default Dying Out ?????

Does anyone else feel like Outlaw 10.5 is becoming non existent ? Like what happened to PDRA’s Pro Extreme class fizzled out. I was at the last race and it just seems like numbers are lower and lower and I’m a huge fan and just saddened by this. I feel like the Generation now is just not into and we are just barely hanging on and I hope it’s not true because as a fan since I was young when my dad took me to my first race at Cecil County Dragway I was hooked. Hope it gets better and picks back up.

tough time for sure.
Maybe a series isn't whats best for outlaw 10.5
Maybe 4-5 big money races like RVSW.

I agree, and the front frame rail rule kills it too.

Actually there is no penalty for not having them.
It is now a weight break if you do have them

To be honest I was there last year and don't remember them having 30 (legit) and not fill ins in that class. How are they supposed to do that this year?

They had 25 on the sheets
2 were questionable 632 guys who've been 4.teens at a heavier weight so not really ducks.
3 cars were hurt testing the week of.

So 28 cars with 100% chance of rain on Friday and chance of rain on Saturday.

So no, I don't think 30 is crazy.

I don't think theres a right answer, and if there is, it's way above my pay grade.

With that being said... 4-6 races a year. all 10K or more.

The 11 races + 2 of ducks racing a lot of 10.5 guys are going to + Deckers doing 2 racers is a lot of fucking races for "regular"' guys.

I may not represent the view of the average fan but the whole idea of outlaw 10.5 IMHO was more engine than the tire/suspension and car could stand.

These days the cars/drivers/teams are too refined...the cars make shoestring passes or abort.

Back in the day most passes were full of wheelies, pedal fests and guys struggling to stay in the groove.

These days its almost like Pro-stock....Once the car gets a little out of shape the run is aborted as there is no way it will win.

On top of that the cars are nothing new, as all the "new" ideas have been tried before and the days of being a giant killer with a moderate amount of money and some creativity are gone.

I've said this many times before. Blame the demise of Outlaw 10.5 on the tire manufacturers. Totally their fault. 100% When we started racing when we got a set of tires that were 102" rollout we were so excited. When we quit they were regularly 106" + then they went to the 16" rim and I have no idea what they are now. When we were 1500 horses down on power and 20 mph down in the eighth with a Fulton 762 on 4 systems in the new car and had to switch to the 16's to have a snowballs chance in hell, I told my brother let's sell everything we don't have a chance, I knew we were done.

We started in the first car. (In avatar that car was my absolute favorite car) with a 632 and qualified 2nd in Huntsville the first big race with a 4.58. We were number one , then Petty and Lynch unloaded the car back out of the trailer (they put it up thinking they would let their previous time stand 4.60) and then proceded to go 4.56. At will. Stupid me, should've seen the handwriting on the wall then.

We left at 3200 rpm on a 30/34 Viper kit with 14 degrees out with a 6.04 total gear ratio at the hit. Bottle pressure at 800 lbs. Just to calm it down. Second system, a 28/32 kit came on at 1.2 seconds in. Third was just a tickler kit 20/24. Couldn't even see rhe third system hit on the data logger. We tried 24 different converter combos that year. Played with so many things. Those were fun times. A little motor could compete. Proudest accomplishment was we never, ever burned that motor up. 400 passes. Never. Sold it to some Grudge guy that went 4.10 in a complete pile of crap grudge car later that year.

I will never forget talking with Jack Barfield when Steve Kirk went 4.56 with the Hoosier tire. That thing looked like a stream roller. Jack said, that big ass tire will be the end of this class. (Or words to that effect) You know what? He was right.

Good post crewchief.
I just always thought of it as a bunch of little things that hurt the class instead of one major thing. Like in a relationship, no one cheated, but you just hate them for everything else. LOL
The thing that made outlaw 10.5 was the run what you brung mentality ended up hurting it. BBB showing up with a 706 and twin 101s. Kirk showing up with the sham of an outlaw 10.5 car. Mobleys as of recent showing up with the screw blower. Johnny Fenn not budging on the 3,000 weight deal hurt a lot of the nitrous guys. That idiot Kenny bringing up the idea of X10.5. The allowance of top sportsman and pro mods with 10.5s at a certain weight. Jimmy, Jerry Dave and the rest of the gang have a lot of work on their plate going forward.
