I was told that car seat belts are made of a different grade and type of materiel, makes you wonder about why race belts are not made from the same stuff actual seat belts are? or are they the same type and grade? Also since seat belts from the OEM seem to last longer why does the NHRA and SFI demand the same metrial used in OEM seat belts be used in the harness?

Ever notice how thin and flexible the belts in your street vehicle are? Wonder how they would fair in the NHRA/SFI standard test, of racing belts?

YES!!! 2 different animals. Auto seat belts need to hold your 200 pounds in a seat at 80mph. Race belt as much as 300 mph.

Unless itís a head on collision...then the velocity of both vehicles could be 160 mph...or more depending on the mass of each.

Ok let's use your theory here!

Car seat belt hold 200+ @ 80 single layer, correct? Then triple layer the OEM stuff and anyone with any knowledge know once you double and triple the use of the product, the strength also increases some as well. So even a single layer OEM is only rate/good for 80MPH in your example, tripling it might make it good for 300MPH.
