Default Ford rear main seals

Can some one tell me the difference between the felpro 2921 and the 2942. When should each one be used? The only difference is the ID of the seal and that's around .010" Surely they can be interchanged?

I believe there's a difference in rubber compound, one being stiffer than the other. One is flouroelastomer aka FKM(2921) and the other is made from Polytetrafluoroethylene aka PTFE(2942)

Thanks for that, just couldn't work out the difference and wasn't sure why they made the two.

This may be of interest. It explains the differences between the 2 and which environment each type is best for. One seems to be better for sealing against chemicals and one is better for higher temps.
