Heck are they even over the sportsman classes?? Think folks
No, to most fans they are just another Sportsman class. Maybe they're lack of popularity is because Pro Mod started as a category in Comp Eliminator, or maybe it's because Pro Mod really started in the IHRA. Either way, the fans don't seem to care about it and that's a shame. It's a great class and it's very competitive racing. However, that "competitiveness" might end up driving away the smaller teams.

The next NHRA race is in Chicago, and Pro Mod does not compete there. Then the next 2 successive races are in Topeka (26 pre-entered) and Bristol (27 pre-entered).

You may think it's a bit much, but that doesnt mean that it isn't the truth. If you ever run into Bruno Massel, ask him why the NHRA doesn't treat Pro Mod better. Let me know what he says.
Will do. Stands sure stayed packed in VA.

When the Pro Mod Championship is about to be decided, the fans stream out of the stands after Pro Stock Bike, right before Pro Mod. At Indy last year, they ran the first round of Pro Mod right after the final qualifying session of Funny Car. Pro Mod qualifying was very good. However, for first round of eliminations, there might have been just under 100 people in the stands. Keep in mind, less than 20 minutes before, there were a couple thousand people in the stands. NHRA fans just don't care. I don't know why that is. The cars are cool, there is a decent variety of makes and models, and the competition is really tight. Racers seem to like the class, but average fans couldn't care less.
Depends on the track !!!!! we ran Q-4 in Gainesville AFTER the nitro cars and 1st round of Alky F/C dragsters and the stands were packed even last weekend it was very very hot lots of fans watching pro mod

They need to put more bleachers up on the other side. Don't like to compare but Maple Grove is just about 2x the size of the Va crowd. Bad thing is they don't have PM (at Maple Grove NHRA nats) I'm sure they would probably get a few NEOMPA racers to try it out.

Yeah. When they announced the two extra races, I thought Maple Grove would be one of them.

I'm sure that's true. VMP is a big Pro Mod track. However, first round of Pro Mod, at VMP, had Pro Stock Bike before it and Top Fuel after it. Not to mention, the announcers were almost begging the fans to stay in the stands for Pro Mod.

Gainesville is the second biggest race on the NHRA schedule, and this year was the 50th anniversary. They had been promoting that race for a year, it was kind of a big deal. Not to mention, it's in the "South" (where Pro Mod is big) and Gainesville draws serious racing fans. In other words, I'm sure there is a reason why Gainesville is always the first race on the Pro Mod schedule.

Since they are giving Pro Stock 6 races off every year, I think they should rotate the tracks that get those classes every year. I would love to see what effect rotating which tracks get Pro Stock, Pro Stock Bike, Mountain Motor Pro Stock, Pro Mod and Factory Stock Shootout have on attendance. It would also change up the show for the fans every couple of years. But that will never happen...
