2 out of our 3 are going this year. Santa Pod will be the only one left.
Shakespeare County Raceway is having 400 fkn houses built on it, and our "used" for 30+ years redneck track is be sold to Mintex IIRC and they have "no room for you drag racers"...fkn Rally cars only. Sad as fk about that.
Strange thing is, if we increase "revenue" 200% we can stay! hmmm,
In a nutshell that means with travel, it will be around $300 for test and tune, and I only live 60miles away
That figure racks up to around $800 to go to S Pod....for a T&T

That really sucks for you Englishmen. I am guessing the third you mention is York?

What about these others? I'm not sure if they run a regular schedule.

North Weald, Elvington and East Kirkby think they have drags.

Dakota Drag Strip, an 1/8th mile in Smeatharpe

and Spitfire Raceway in Perranporth

The only track here in Utah, Rocky Mountain Raceways, is only guaranteed to be open thru the end of 2018. The owner sold a majority of the land it sits on a few years ago and we have been on a lease. It runs out in 2018. If the company that we lease from doesn't decide to build on it, we may get a one year extension, but thoughts are that won't happen. At one time in the 60's we had 3 tracks in the Salt Lake Valley. At the end of next year we will have zero.

York is my local track, The "Southern Shandy drinkers" stay away as its 270 miles away
There is no other designated drag strips here, all the places you mention are class ruled for several (all different sorts of) Motorsport days,
I'm thinking of starting track days during the week now instead with my old TT Soarer. To get anywhere here is very expensive as fuel is around $8 a gall.

To be honest, people who drag race over here should in reality be in a mental institution. Huge commitment for absolutely nothing, no one GAF (outsiders) about DR here other than us screwballs who cannot seem to walk away from it LOL

It's sad to hear when places like this shut down.
I got to visit and watch at Spenser Speedway when it was Apple Valley Speedway
There was a string between us watching on the left lane.
The left lane had a dip in in 30 or 49 feet out.
Was exciting to watch cars wheel stand thru it, guys had guts, lol.
To get thru just past the finish line you squeezed between the right lane wall and a wall for back stretch. You went between the 2 side by side wide open.

Was a cool place regardless to me.

On another note.
I remember reading Utica/Rome wanting to build another drag strip.
Doubt it will happen especially losing more jobs at Remington and such

Really?

How long ago? I watch it all the time and don't know how I missed that.

This was a narrow 1/8th-mile track built by Lloyd Young(a distant relative). When it first opened(1960), it was basically a dirt strip with a 100-foot long concrete starting pad. In 1963, the track was paved for the full length--1,056 feet. There was an uphill shutdown area and a return road near the finish line. Timing was on the primitive side involving stop watches, finish line watchers, and telephones. From what I understand, Once he paved the whole track and updated timers and such, He and his wife couldn't afford the insurance to keep it open.... I guess he should have just left it dirt....Anyway, here is a video in its current state.

Ahh, but the "shithole" bit is the attraction...plus, it does not take 4 fkn hours to get 1 run....there's folk that like fkn around in the pits bigging it up...then there are folk who just want to go down the track !
anyhow, I think its going at the end of the year
I bet Shakey is busy this year with that going too, do you race there? I have not been for a good few years .
