And which one was faster on racetrack? Did it show those HP gains

On a flow bench, a short adapter cramps the flow because it essentially makes a step right below and blocks a portion of the throttle bore of the 4500, however the tall adapter provides a gradual taper and does not cause a measurable restriction when comparing a single throttle bore over an open plenum vs. the tapered adapter.

Many moons ago there were some magazine tests of intakes with spacers and adapters that led to the Bill Mitchell design of a BBC Dominator intake that is essentially a 4150 intake with the tall adapter to 4500 as an integral part of the casting. Like anything a little unusual, the naysayers beat it down because they look odd even though they work great.
I can say this. I put a 2" spacer with a 4500 top and 4150 bottom and picked up a tenth. Back to back weekends with almost equivalent air. I should say I did deburr the SV intake (no porting) at the same time. While it might have helped it isnt enough imo to pick up by itself. This is on a 434 sbc.

Didn't test the 4150 vs. 4500 on the track with the cast intake. Sheetmetal intake with a modified 1250 HP dominator made 64 more HP than the cast 4150 intake, so the sheetmetal intake didn't come back off the engine. Have been running the car with 2 - 1000 HP 4150's on the sheetmetal intake.

I plan on doing more intake, carb, and collector size and type testing next year.

Compared to the previous 750 carb and intake with 4150 opening. I thought it was obvious based on the original question.

Thanks for the info guys, it's a huge help. Got my hands on the 2" adapter and that created another question...do I leave the cloverleaf on the intake flange or mill it out?

If it were me I would only change one thing at a time. That would be 2 things.

Did you go from a 750 to a 1050 dominator? What hp level are you at? Did you try a bigger 4150?

I would mill it out and blend the intake and see if that picks you up with the 4150 then fit and blend the adapter and see where that takes you. But if you go straight to the adapter do mill out and blend the intake and fit and blend the adapter.

Just cut the top off and weld a 4500 base on . 3-4 hours work. Picked up 2/10's on a 438 Windsor going from an 850 Holley o an 1150.
