Default BBC Woodruff crank key sizes

What is the correct size crank woodruff key for a BBC?

I noticed the height of the key when installed, above the snout, is .070" on some and .100" on others. At .070" there is only half of the timing chain gear and a ATI damper engaged. Seems the more engagement the better.

Molnar crank, forged 4.375" stroke crank.

Pioneer PK-7 should work

Pioneer PK-7-A Use the alloy key rather than the stock one (PK-7).

That Keyway dont' do shit but locate the gear and damper on a N/A deal....the press fit is what holds it
Now, on a heavy Blower, super charger deal..... It may help hold it from turning and probably does, but they should run slightly more press fit.

The reason I asked is I had a BBC Scat crank here I measured the amount of the woodruff key above the crank and it was .100" proud. I also have a BBC Molnar crank in an assembled shortblock and the key is only .070" proud. The key way of the crank chain gear and the key way of the ATI damper would be only about 50% engaged by the woodruff key. This made me question if there is a key that would better fit the gear and damper.

I agree that the key is primarily for location. If it were a supercharged application, Id be adding a .250 drive key 180 from the existing. I do them often.
