Default Who hunts with a Crossbow

I just got a Killer Instinct KI360. I've never hunted with a bow period much less a crossbow. I won it at the Ducks Unlimited Banquet last weekend. Shot it today and its BADASS!!!

BUT what else do I need to know? Any tips / tricks? I have never been in a stand period when I felt like the deer were close enough to even get with a bow anyway. Maybe I need to work on my scent more than worry about the bow work....

I have had a PSE Smoke for a couple years. But I don't really hunt. Just shoot Coyotes in the field.. lol

the only thing I can give you on any tips is.
When pulling back to cock it,pull up evenly,do not pull harder left side,or the Arrow will go that way.
pull even.

practice and enjoy!

oh and keep up on maintenance, lube the String ,and check to make sure all is kept tight

I have been doing it for 3 years and love it. Get a good scope and dial it in for 20,30 and 40 yards. Practice as much as possible using different arrow weights and once you settle on the bolt pick a good broadhead that you can shoot well at 40 yards or so. I learned one lesson the hard way after usings trees so long for a rest I got too close to a tree trunk and when the shot broke one of my limbs hit the tree and I damn near shit a brick. Luckily no damage other than ego. I like the expandable broadheads and they leave a nasty exit wound. Good luck this season.

Plenty of deer taken with a bow on the ground.... try to set your kill distance at a reality distance. Mine is 35 yards. Never shoot at a moving deer. Avoid 1/4 ING towards u shots. 2 blade 2 inch rage or 3 blade spitfire broad heads both fly like field points and do a great job killing. Practice as many different shooting angles and heights as you can before season. It very rare to get a perfect broadside shot at 20 yards or less in real life. Buy the way I've archery hunted since 2010. Killed 4 , lost 2 and yes I put in a lot of effort on the 2 I know I killed but never retieved. 2 very hard lessons learned for an ethical hunter. Enjoy you new bow, it is very addictive

I have two cross bows that i hunt with. One is a Barnett Vengeance and the other is Scorpyd Ventilator. Both are reverse draw and great FPS. The Barnett will go 385FPS and the Scorpyd 440FPS. I like the reverse draw because they are more narrow and better FPS over a conventional cross bow.

Love mine. Kill 2-5 a year with it. Like said earlier. Pull back evenly, watch where your fingers are, but a good scope.
I have the "tenpoint" scope with the triple dots and crosshairs.
Mine shoots dead on using the three crosshairs at 20,35 and 40. Then I can use the "dial a range" to get out to 60 if need in 3 more increments.
Just shoot me a text Brad if you need anymore info.

I have 3 and put hawke x-bow scopes on them and love them
I like a heavy spline bolt with at least .0011 straightness and a 125gr broad head (rage 2 blade extreme) and practice ALOT!!!!!!
use a scent killer spray and I like to use evercalm deer attractant
I have practiced with mine to 80 yds. but will never shoot past 60 unless its varmint or predator hunting
till you feel comfortable stay under 40 yds. or less and you will be fine
if you don't like the shot in front of you don't take it just take your time
pass it up till you feel good enough to shot

I actually ended up selling it. Bought hot rod parts. Will probably get myself a standard bow this year.

I have been using a Barnett for the past two years and i thought i liked it until i bought the Ravin R15. This thing is bad ass. I have to get a new target because the boost shoot right thru the one i have for the Barnett. Only downfall is the bolts are like $12 per and add another $13 for the broadhead. Bolts are proprietary to Ravin due to the nocks... This crossbow is like a gun but better...
