Default ppg 2021 users

can someone that's familiar with this stuff give a good starting point for air pressure/setup with an Iwata LPH-400...I have 1.3 and 1.4 both..only did a few small parts so far but seems like by the time I get it to lay flat it's ready to slide

28LBS, 1.3 tip for sure, no 1.4,

1st coat medium wet, 25% reducer, let dry hand slick (can drag your finger lightly across the tape without stinging,
second coat wet, 35% reducer, let dry tacky (slightly sticky, stings slightly on tape),
3rd and 4th coat, full wet, 50% reducer, one coat on top of another

DO NOT hose it, chock the fluid down about 2 turns.

Use reducer for temp hotter then it is. If it is 80 degrees, you 885, 90 degrees 895. NEVER use 860, even if it is freezing, 860 will not break down the clear properly

The trick is letting the first coat dry 30 minutes hand slick, then you can lay it on for flow and no worries about sag.

I just mixed it 4:1:1 like it said on label with 885...it hasn't been extremely hot here yet...so its ok to over reduce it?its heavy as shit mixed like they say...how are you figuring the 25,35,50% reducer?25% of the activated amount of clear?

4 1 1, then add 10%, then 10 / 15% more. Just keep making it thinner

I use the lph 400 with a 1.4 tip with 2021.
I mix it 4:1:1 and then just a tad more reducer. 20 psi at the gun. 1st coat tack up 20 min and 5 min longer tack time for each coat after. I use the 885 with it and have no issues.
As far as gun settings I couldn't tell ya. I run them wide open on fluid and just control the gun myself. Fan is fully open then just 1 turn in. Lph400 guns like to be close to the panel so keep that in mind as well. 2021 is a good clear. I wait a little longer on that clear though to cut and buff. Doesn't color sand as well as others quickly.

Personally I found the 1.4 to produce to large drop size. The 1.3 breaks up the material better. I have even used a 1.2 on a motorcycle and it laid out amazing (Motorcycles are a PIA to buff) but a 1.2 would be to slow on a all over car paint job.

I did use a 1.4 on a motorhome that I was not worried about flow / having orange peel.

Just my personal experience, I always use the finest tip that I can with any clear.
