Why be moving a shifter through a gate if the gear was simply synthesized in the dyno itself w/o a transaxle/transmission.
BTW the video's quality is an exercise in frustration to try to determine what is what on the motor... I couldn't see any details that would confirm it was even an FE. Hopefully if you handed FORD the video they might have it cleaned up by a professional video restorer.
One of my college friends has done essentially star-wars picking up stuff flying through space imaging ever since Pres. Reagan. Decades ago he cleaned up a surveillance video from an automatic teller cash machine where a husband abducted and murdered his wife. The defense lawyers claimed he doctored the video and he replied "I simply removed the garbage and left the original untouched." Hubby was convicted of murder.
You type A LOT of CRAP.

A few months ago I got a call from the Archive department at Ford Motor Company regarding the video. I thought they wanted the video taken down, but they actually wanted a good copy - which I provided - because they did not have that particular video in the own archives. I received a very nice letter from them, which I would turn over to the dyno guy if I had a way to find him again.

Cool as hell Barry. Cool as hell.

This is what the later GT40's (68/9?) ran as power.

I seen in one of the pictures that you posted long ago that you have a "sidewinder", only a pure FE guy would notice that intake change, lol.

Smokey commented in his 3 part book Ford management was great to work with but not Ford Engineering...

I think that's where they found out that they needed better rods, as later engines came with "LeMans" rods, much beefier and with cap screw bolts that were good for one use.

As in the movie, the cars came from England, but it took Shelby's team to make them fast and sort out the brakes/handling/air management/power/ect., back in those days (I've dealt with some English and French engineers.) the English were a bunch of arrogant bass turds, lol.

You Goof...

There was a trans-axle connected to the engine.

If you actually watched the video you would have seem from around 7:15 - 8:20 mark they discuss the trans-axle. They also show that they used 2 dyno absorption units ( not that we should expect you to know what one looks like) one connected to each half-shaft to run the programmed lap simulations.

The Charger was substituted for the Fairlane that was the intended car for the bad guys.

"The choice of cars had more to do with corporate marketing than dramatic inspiration. Ford and Warner Bros. cooperated on movies, so a Mustang and Fairlane were selected. Both were taken to Max Balchowski to be modified, but he said the Fairlane would not survive any serious stunt work. He suggested a Dodge Charger".
