The truck has 19,170 miles as of 3 pm today. The third one is on backorder.
So first engine used 7 quarts between 3 to 5 oil changes?
Second engine used 3 quarts between 1 or 2 oil changes?

I say your dad might want to drive it like he stole it to get the rings to seat. Drive the next one really hard and see if it helps - plenty of warranty time and miles left. In fact I wouldn't have LET them do a warranty replacement without first driving the thing pretty hard to see if it helped. I don't know. I guess if Ford is willing to do it. Seriously though - I'd drive the next one hard.

Ahh yes, I remember those comments well.

Now they're singing a different tune.

I’ll tell you one thing, my Cobra started ticking years ago, I popped the hood and it was coming from inside the engine, looked like I needed to drop it out the bottom to get the head off, sold it a week later

I’ve heard Ford guys say this before but I’ve seen no evidence of it, and even if it was an original Ford idea, (like the light bulb, water, cash money, tits, etc.....) why the fuck didn’t they run with it?
Ford's mistake wasn't using OHC engines.
Their mistakes was not updating the Windsor family.
Not using VVT in conjunction with DOHC engines.
SOHC small displacement was foolish from the start.
Biggest mistake was designing the Mod Motor to be FWD capable.
The Coyote share this flaw........

Spray Bore linings is not the problem.
The machining that comes after is.......they're pushing the damn engines out too damn fast.

As for gm copying Ford.......
They openly admitted with trying to out think Ford's next move by
borrowing design elements from the Windsor family.
The Y-Block design was a current industry trend that started in diesels
and carried over to gas engines for trucks.
The ls and Mod motor were both slated for truck duty from the start. Hence.....the beefier Y-Block design. (More about this later).
Nobody including gm thought Ford would drop the well proven Windsor line until Ford made the very painful announcement that

it was soon to be history.

Service Procedure

Engineering analysis of engine assemblies replaced under warranty for a customer concern of excessive
oil consumption has found that the majority of engines did not require replacement. Additional engineering
analysis has found that an excessive oil consumption condition may be caused by the powertrain control
module (PCM) strategy which purposely closes the throttle plate during the deceleration fuel shut off
(DFSO) events resulting in high intake manifold vacuum which can pull oil past the piston rings and into
the combustion chamber. To correct the condition, a revised PCM calibration is in the process of being
released to adjust the throttle plate opening angle to reduce engine manifold vacuum during DFSO
events.
If the only symptom exhibited is excessive oil consumption do not attempt diagnosis or repairs for this
condition at this time. The revised calibration is expected to be available December 2019. Monitor OASIS
for updates.
1. Check the oil level on the oil level indicator. Add oil as necessary to bring the oil level to the MAX fill line
on the oil level indicator.
