thought I might as your opinion on this.
this will just be a street car.ill just put some nice cragars and nice tires on it.
a while back I almost bought a 68 rebel convertible.
the owner died and his family was letting it go pretty cheap but I waited too long and got beat out.i really liked the lines of the car but knew another local deal like this would probably not happen.
now I see there is a 68 ambassador for sale close to me and the price seems reasonable.
looking at the body of this car it seems the same as the rebel although this is a hardtop.it has 118k and is a 343 eng and an auto trans.
I had a few questions though.
would a 360 amc fit right in?
what trans is in this car? is it a t 400?
the interior is green which I don't like at all.
what would be involved in changing it to black?
what suspension is in the rear of this car?leaves ,coils?
are there any special interest areas I should be looking at when I go to look at it?
anything else you guys could add is greatly appreciated.
thanks
on a plus side all ambassadors came standard with ac and it looks intact.

nice, all amc V-8 engines from the lowly 290 to the monster 401 are the same. just different bore and strokes.... the trans is not a t-400, those were only used in jeeps. the trans in there is not the best, but you can find a torque flight fairly easy. they rust in the usual car places. the rear suspension should be coils, and torque arms. that's what my '73 Ambassador had. if you get it, post pics, would love to see it.

Makes no sense to swap a 343 for a 360 unless there's something wrong with the 343. 17 CI isn't going to be worth the trouble.

Sounds like a cool hooptie project to me..:)

I was just saying 360 because I have one laying around from a 76 jeep Cherokee.

do you have the trans to go with the 360?
if so, use it.
if not, you'll need to find one....
I wouldn't waste my time and money adapting the BW to the 360
