: Suncoast Dragster

I have been posting a lot of dragster questions latley. This is the car I'm helping a buddy put together. He purchased it as a roller -engine. Came with basically everything but the motor. He has a 14-1 468 going together for next season but picked up a .030 over 396 used for $700 for this season. The 396 has the best factory oval ports ever made, old style KB hyperutectic pistons and a .570/.578 lift FT hyd. cam. We guessed somewhere between 400-450hp. We fired it up last night for the first time. Ran ok. Tons of work to be done still.

Its been quite the project. I love how easy some people think this stuff goes together. The previous owner said it went down the track with a bbc last yr. After working on it the two of us are pretty sure it hasnt been together for a long time and even when it did it was hacked together. Everything takes 4x longer than it should because you have to test fit, add more crap and re-test and then move shit and test again. Gotta love race cars.

Heres some shitty cell phone pics. I will take more with a good camera next time I work on it.

Slowly. We got it started. Still a ton to do. Work is exploding here.

Work is exploding here.

I guess I should clarify. The weather is really nice and the frost laws are off the roads so people in the trucking and construction business are busy, which includes me and a lot of people I know.

The dragster: Were taking it to get the chassis certified tomorrow. Worked on it a ton since I last posted. Hopefully a couple more nights and a few more bucks and it should be operating under its own power ready to get some shake down passes.

Does anyone have any input on the wing? Should we run it or leave it off? 10's possibly 9's are expected out of it. I doubt at much more than 135/140mph.

I'd leave it off if it was me.

The 225" hardtail I just bought was running 7.80's with no wing. And I don't see anyone running a wing at the track with cars running 7.50 or slower.

Thank you. It looks cool but the weight, downforce and functionality of a car this slow is highly questionable.

Chassis certified to 7.50 today with zero issues. It was last certified in 2010 so we didnt forsee any problems. Only thing we had to do was get the tabs welded for the seat belt mounts and add the firewall. I have to wire up the dash, get a master cylinder, chute cable installed and it should be ready to rock.

How much did your buddy end up getting his rolling chassis for? I'm hoping to find a decent rolling chassis for 3-5k... But in the mean time just trying to work out the details for a motor, really wanting a bbc rotating assembly to tinker around with til then... Car looks good man, I'll be keeping an eye on this build! :)
