I have a turbo car sbc single turbo. The converter I have is way to tight on the bottom and only revs to 2400rpms on the brake. It will build five pounds of boost in like 10 secs on the brake but then it fights the converter and bogs down the motor untill it get to around 4000rpm. It leaves like a dog on 5 pounds.

I can get it to build 10 pounds of boost but then it is on the brake for 20 secs. It leaves good then though.

I have talked to my converter builder and he is going to restall the converter but I want go racing this weekend before the restall. If I stay on it that long (20secs for two or three passes with time in between to cool the trans and a fluid change) will I for sure burn up the trans. I am going to take fresh fluid out and change it once while I'm out there at the track and also put fresh fluid in before I go.

Hell of a gamble imo.

If you decide to gamble, be sure to also take with you a couple of those small squirel cage blowers that you can get at Home Depot or Lowes and a good generator. You'll need to blow ambient air on the trans pan and converter after each pass to take heat out.

Good luck.

.

As short as possible. As mentioned, you are going to repeatedly put a bunch of heat in the trans.
You are not doing the life of your fluid much of a favor. Good luck.

Throw a little 50 shot at it on the brake. That will get it spooled instantly

If you spool that car for 20 seconds then make a pass , you will have cooler output temperature of over 450 degrees and the trans will be ready to catch fire.
I would not recommend you even try this in fear of you catching on fire , wrecking the car and/or someone else.
Its not worth it just to make a pass.

Have you exhausted all efforts in attempt to build more boost quicker while staging the car...3 step, retarded timing, ?

the converter is acting like a dyno loading the motor , only 1/3 of the fliud goes to the cooler. I have watched people set on the brake way too long trying to biuld boost and kill the converter. This is one of the reasons for a steel stator, the aluminum stator would melt out of the converter (aluminum melts at 1150). we only like to see 5 seconds on the converter. Back when small blocks ruled and big turbos were the norm. fires we every round once you had a steel stator you could set on the break till it melted the seal out of the front pump, then a big fire. now days with the tuning ability and the use of bigger cube motors biulding boost doesnt seem to be much of a problem.

Another thing to note is that regular ATF has a low flashpoint, between 320 and 375 degrees in most brands.
