Default Aluminum Driveshafts

I have a 3-1/2" aluminum Inland Empire driveshaft on my Camaro.
565 ( 910 h.p. ), 400 turbo w/brake, 9.5 converter.
It has 1350 joints.
A couple buddies have expressed concern over this shaft.
Who thinks this shaft is going to twist up?
Or should I just keep an eye on the welds and go?

Mark, got a 3 1/2" MMC aka Metal Matrix Composite aluminum driveshaft with 1350 joints from Denny's in my now 3870 lb. footbraked launched Chevelle that's been in service 10 years, upwards of 3000 passes, survived several broken transmission, rear gears, a broken crank and was worth .04 in ET behind my previous 468 that was making upwards of 750HP replaced this season by my 850HP 522!

.

1050 HP, 3200 lbs ran a PST for several years. Painted a line & check the welds. Run double loops & check after every race.
Very small chance it will explode before it shows twist. Good luck.

I had the same Inland Empire alum. shaft in my car and got rid of it shortly after installing the ProCharger. I felt it was on borrowed time and didn't want to risk tearing up the bottom of the car and possibly the trans when it let go. It had probably 400+ passes on it though at ~750hp, 3150#, 6000 converter, 1.30 60's. Went to a Denny's Nitrous Ready steel shaft that was 8# heavier and didn't notice any loss of performance.

I understand that many Renegade racers run the stock Ford motorsport aluminum driveshaft, with the 1330 joints..

These car weigh around 3200 lbs, and run mid 8's at near 160..

We run a aluminum PST 3 1/2 at 3860lbs transbrake and around 700hp. Have alot of passes on it with no problems but we will see when we start using Nitrous. PST said it would be good up to 900hp.

Take a look at this link before you get crazy with the HP. I know you're not making 1600hp but this shows what can happen when dealing with aluminum shafts.

Most of the guys wadding those up are running t56s and launching off the limiter. I ahev many of them broken that way.

I was running a stock GM shaft until recently no problems ;p)
